The 5 codes are:
- The Hermeneutic Code (HER) - not fully explained and is left a mystery.
- The Proairetic Code (ACT) - builds tension, relates to something that is going to happen.
- The Semantic Code (SEM) - connotation of the story.
- The Symbolic Code (SYM) - deeper set of meaning (similar to SEM.)
- The Cultural Code (REF) - relates to science or religion, symbols and signs.
